• AGOA: (African Growth and Opportunity Act). An unilateral U.S. preference program that allows duty-free, quota-free treatment for qualifying apparel exports from designated Sub-Saharan African countries.
• ATPDEA: (Andean Trade Promotion and Drug Eradication Act). An U.S. unilateral duty preference program that allows duty-free treatment to qualifying textile and apparel exports from Andean countries: Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia.
• DUTY: Are the tax rates charged from each country, to allow foreigner incoming products to the country.
• CBTPA: (Caribbean Basin Trade Partnership Act). The trade benefits under CBTPA apply to Caribbean Basin countries designated by the United States, and involve the duty-free entry of specific textile and apparel articles free of duty and free of any quantitative restrictions.
• FIBER: The fundamental unit used in fabrication of textile yarns and fabrics.
• FILAMENT: Fiber of indefinite or extreme length. The extreme length of filament permits their being used in yarn without twist or with very low twist, generally made into yarns without the spinning operations required of shorter staple fibers.
• HTS NUMBER: Classification code which identifies each product in the Harmonized Tariff Schedule.
• YARN: A continuous strand of textile fibers falling into two basic classifications, spun yarns or continuous filament yarns.
• THREAD: Thin continuous cord by combining strands of cotton, linen, wool, silk and man-made fibers, used in the assembly of apparel.
• SME: Square Meters Equivalents, the common unit of measurement for textile and apparel products.
• TARIFF PREFERENCE LEVELS (TPL´S): Provides preferential duty treatment for a limited quantity of non-originating goods.
• MEMBERS OF DR-CAFTA: Refers as to the countries that constitute the Free Trade Agreement, being: Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic and the United States of America.
• RULES OF ORIGIN: Criteria applied to materials and/or processes to determine eligibility for preferential treatment.
• SUBHEADING: Classification number for each product, from the Central American Tax System (for Central America) formed by 6 digits
• KNIT TO SHAPE: applies to any good of which 50 Percent or more of the exterior surface area is formed by major parts that have been knitted or crocheted directly to the shape used in the good, with no consideration being given to patch pockets, appliqués, or the like. Minor cutting, trimming, or sewing of those major parts will not affect the determination of whether a good is “knit to shape.”
• KNITTING: Basic fabric formed through an interposition process while knitting. Ex. used in t-shirts or shirts or underwear.
• WOVEN: Basic form of joining threads (warp and weft) to create a fabric through the weaving process. Ex. used for the elaboration of dressing trousers and jackets.
• WHOLLY FORMED (Fabric): when used in reference to fabrics, means that all the production processes and finishing operations, starting with the weaving, knitting, needling, tufting, felting, entangling, or other process, and ending with a fabric ready for cutting or assembly without further processing, took.
• WHOLLY FORMED (Yarn/Thread): when used in reference to yarn/thread, means that all the production processes, starting with the extrusion of filaments, strips, film, or sheet, and including slitting a film or sheet into strip, or the spinning of all fibers into yarn/thread, or both, and ending with yarn/thread. |
